His motivations for leaving are, at best, one of those murkier things to come from all of this, though whatever the case may be, he's sure he wouldn't hold it against anyone being upset about his decisions. He can't be mad at no one stopping him, no one trying to keep him from leaving.
"You did what you had to" is a relief to hear, "Red found a great pilot" is incredibly comforting as well. All of this puts him in a fairly strange position with Red here, but trying to untangle all of that is nowhere near as pressing here as it would have been when he were alive. Thoughtfully, he takes a sip of his drink.]
I'm really glad. [Genuinely, honestly.] Red always stuck around even if my gods' temples disappeared, so I ended up spending a lot more time there than in the temples themselves. [It... feels kind of silly to admit it. If Shiro had been paying close enough attention after the two of them partnered up, he would have noticed the relocation of Keith's personal effects from the lion to his room at the temple had been a very slow process initially.] Having that kind of space, that kind of protection, it saved my butt a bunch of times.
So, knowing that Red has a good pilot, even if it isn't me... That's really the best I could ask for.
He wonders when--if ever--Keith will remember. He hopes Keith gets his memories back, because even if some of them are bad--well. There's been a lot of bad. Still... not having your memories has got to be disorienting. And there are a lot of important people Keith doesn't remember. It's... sad. Keith's touched a lot of lives, and that he doesn't remember...
Well. He's still Keith. That's good; he hasn't changed. He's still the same strong, resilient, caring Keith. The same Keith who's afraid of another god leaving. It's why Shiro never minded that Keith took a while to move all of his things. Lose enough gods, and anyone would be afraid to move into a temple that might not be there the next day. Even if he can't help it, Shiro couldn't forgive himself if he disappeared and left Keith, too. So... he hopes he stays here with Keith as long as he can.
He considers Keith's words. ]
It's good that Red's there for you. [ Red had been a shelter for Keith, just like Black had been for Shiro's soul.
... Alright, maybe it's not a perfect comparison, but still.
Keith's reply doesn't come as a surprise, honestly. He'd been so reluctant to leave Red, but as long as it was in good hands, that's what matters. But... if Shiro'd had his way, things would have transitioned more smoothly. ]
I thought you might say something like that. [ A smile. ] You know, sometimes I wish we could fly the lions around. Kind of like old times, when we used to race each other.
[And Keith considers that wish, humming softly in thought. Is there... any real reason they couldn't do something like that, even on a smaller scale than galaxy-hopping?]
Well, why don't we sometime? [Simple as that, really.] I can still pilot Red, and Heaven's a big enough place... even if it's not like flying through space, it could still be fun.
